“Ume Cinnamon Roll Pie” – Easy and aromatic with puff pastry

Hello, this is Sato, Ume Concierge at the Kyoto store.

Recently I’ve been sharing recipes for cool summer desserts, but this time I’d like to introduce a warm baked treat: Ume Cinnamon Roll Pie, made with puff pastry!

Unlike traditional cinnamon rolls that require kneading and proofing the dough, this recipe uses puff pastry sheets, making it wonderfully easy.
Simply add the ingredients, bake, and enjoy


【Recipe】(Serves 2 / Cooking time: 25 minutes, excluding chilling time in freezer

  • 3 tbsp ume syrup
  • 4–5 infused ume  
  • 10 g unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 frozen puff pastry sheet

Icing

  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp water

1.Preparation
・Melt the butter in the microwave.
・Roughly chop the leftover ume.
・Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon powder to make cinnamon sugar.

2.Roll out the semi-thawed puff pastry with a rolling pin. Brush with melted butter and ume syrup, then sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon sugar.

3.Sprinkle the chopped ume over the dough, roll it up tightly from the near edge, and pinch the seam to seal. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the freezer for about 20 minutes.

4.Make the icing: In a bowl, combine powdered sugar and water, mixing well.


5.Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F). Slice the chilled roll into 1 cm thick pieces and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15 minutes, then drizzle with the icing. Ready to serve!

The warm aroma of cinnamon combined with the gentle tartness of ume makes this an irresistible treat.
