Hello, this is Sato, Ume Concierge at the Kyoto store.

Today’s featured recipe is a very easy dessert spring roll made with seasonal pear.

The crisp texture and sweet-tart flavor of pear and ume compote, made with ume syrup, pair beautifully with cream cheese.

【Recipe】(Serves 3 / Cooking time: 20 minutes, excluding chilling time for compote

  • 50 ml ume syrup
  • 3 infused ume
  • 1/2 pear
  • 3 individually wrapped cream cheese portions
  • 3 spring roll wrappers
  • 50 ml vegetable oil
  • Cinnamon powder (to taste)

1.Remove the pits from the leftover ume and roughly chop.

2.Cut the pear into 1 cm cubes. Pour ume syrup over, place in a heatproof dish, and microwave at 500W for 5 minutes. (Cooking time may vary depending on your microwave, so please adjust accordingly.) Once cooled, chill in the refrigerator.

3.On each spring roll wrapper, place the pear compote (patted dry with paper towel), chopped ume, and cream cheese cut into 1 cm cubes for easy rolling. Sprinkle with cinnamon and roll up.

4.Heat oil in a frying pan and cook the rolls over medium heat until the wrappers are golden and cooked through.

5.Drizzle with additional ume syrup if desired, and serve.

Since these are pan-fried rather than deep-fried, they’re a lighter, healthier option.
They also taste wonderful paired with vanilla ice cream!
