Joshu White is a rare variety that is grown by about 50 local farmers in Aoya Bairin in Joyo City, Kyoto Prefecture, and is rarely sold outside of direct sales stores.

Carefully thinned by hand, Joshu white grown to large size was harvested at full ripeness with a fresh apple-like aroma.

Production area of Joshu White: Joyo City, Kyoto Prefecture

Aoya Bairin in Joyo City, Kyoto Prefecture, where Joshu White is produced, is the largest plum grove in Kyoto Prefecture that has been in existence since the Kamakura period. The trees were grafted by about 50 farmers, and Joshu White has been carefully passed down as a local specialty plum. In late February, when the white plum blossoms bloom, you can't help but feel like Kyoto as you tour the farm while drinking warm Uji tea.
