Orange plum is a variety created by crossing Nanko plum and Jizo plum. In addition to the peach scent inherited from Nanko plum, it also has a tangerine-like scent, and is characterized by a fresh taste.

The Wakayama Prefectural Ume Research Institute was involved in the development, and in 2018, 19 years after the research began, Choya, Japan's first plum experience specialty store, went on sale. Since then, the plums have become so popular that they sell out quickly every year.

Origin of oranges: Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture

The Minabe/Tanabe region in the southwestern part of the Kii Peninsula is the largest producer of plums in Japan. 50% of the plums grown in Japan are harvested here. The historic plum production system, which has been improved since the Edo period, has been selected as a World Agricultural Heritage Site.
