Hello everyone,
This is Sato, Ume Concierge at the Kyoto store.
As the cold of winter sets in, December brings many occasions to gather with family and friends—Christmas, New Year’s, and festive year-end meals.
Following my previous recipe for White Ume Sangria, today I’d like to introduce a drink perfect for winter entertaining: Red Ume Sangria.
It’s delicious served chilled, but also warming and cozy when enjoyed hot.
【Recipe]】(Serves 2 / Cooking time: 5 minutes)
- 90 ml ume syrup
- 300 ml red wine
- 3 infused ume
- ¼ apple
- ½ orange
- 40 g blueberries
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 star anise
1.Cut the apple into thin wedges and the orange into segments. Peel the orange.
2.Prepare a pitcher along with all the fruits and other ingredients.
3.Add the fruits, blueberries, cinnamon stick, star anise, leftover ume, and ume syrup to the pitcher, then pour in the red wine.
4.Stir lightly and serve.
For the hot version: Heat the wine, ume syrup, cinnamon, and star anise together until just before boiling. Add the fruits and leftover ume to a glass, then pour the warmed wine mixture over the top.
For an even fruitier flavor, mash the leftover ume slightly as you drink.
The mellow richness of beet sugar in the syrup makes this the perfect heartwarming drink for cold winter nights.
