Easy “Sweet Chili Sauce” Made with Ume Syrup

Hello, this is Sato, Ume Concierge at the Kyoto store.

The days are still chilly, but we can already feel the warmth of spring in the sunshine.

Today’s recipe is Sweet Chili Sauce—sweet, tangy, and with just the right kick of heat.
It’s quick and easy to make with ume syrup!

The result is fruity, lightly textured, and also makes a great salad dressing.


【Recipe】(Serves 2 / Cooking time: 10 minutes

  • 3 tbsp ume syrup
  • 3 infused ume
  • 3 tbsp vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp doubanjiang (chili bean paste)
  • 1/2 tsp grated garlic

1.Remove the pits from the ume and roughly chop the flesh.

2.Mix all the ingredients together until well combined. Ready to serve!

Adjust the vinegar and doubanjiang to taste.

This versatile sauce is delicious not only with fresh spring rolls and salads, but also as a dip for fried foods, or stir-fried with chicken or seafood.

For a creamier, richer flavor, try adding a little mayonnaise.
